Description
A British Commonwealth campaign medal presented for service during World WarII. The medal was instituted in 1945 and was awarded for 6-months service
afloat, in the Atlantic or "home waters"
Inclusive Dates: 3 September 1939 - 8 May 1945
A service member must first have had to earn the 1939-1945 Star before
commencing qualification for the Atlantic Star.
Original Issue, Full-Size Medal.
Description:
Six-Pointed star, struck in yellow copper zinc alloy w/a height of 44mm and a maximum width of 38mm.
Obverse:
Has a central design of the Royal Cypher of King George VI, Surmounted by a crown. The cypher is surrounded by a circle containing the inscription, "The Atlantic Star"
Reverse:
Plain (recipients name impressed on Australian & South African Forces issued medals).
Ribbon attached to the medal by a ring that passes through the uppermost point of the star.
