Original WW2 cap badge for The Hampshire Regiment, theatre made sand cast bi-metal construction featuring silver metal wreath and tiger with riveted brass rose and HAMPSHIRE scroll. Two loops and original wire split pin still present on back, both of which are somewhat thinner than those on British made pieces. Most of these sand cast badges tended to be made in Egypt [the Regiment was stationed in Egypt at the beginning of the war]. Following service in Egypt and then on Malta, the Hampshires were involved in the invasions of both Sicily and Italy, which is how the badge found its way over here to the US, being sent back home as a souvenir by a US Army Ordnance sergeant who served in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Light age tarnish but no oxidation to metal and no damage to loops or pin. Nice piece for any collector of theatre made British insignia, guaranteed original and is in fine condition.
