Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corp, established in April of 1917 and served until 1921, was the first women's contingent to serve in the British Army.
Worker (Wkr?). A. Taylor (Service Number 24007) was one of the new women for the new century that challenged Society's expectations for a woman's place and role in politics, the workplace and the home.
The women's movement truly began when the QMAAC marched off for their War- time Service. They melded the martyrdom of Emily Davison of the Suffragettes and that of Edith Cavell of the Red Cross at demonstrating what women could do with their service and conviction.
This is a significant example amongst the million plus Victory Medals that were minted to celebrate the sacrifice of so many during the Great War.
