Item Description:
This sweet Iroquois beaded pin cushion is dated 1913. It shows the classic raised beadwork style developed by the Iroquois to sell to Victorian tourists visiting Niagara Falls. The Tuscarora Iroquois specialized in creating pincushions in many shapes and developed techniques where the beadwork is raised more than one layer of beads above the fabric surface. This heart shaped pin cushion measures approximately 4" across by 3 3/4" tall. It is missing part of one loop of dangles on one side. And, it looks like there were loops at the bottom point of the heart that are now missing. There is some slight wear to the fabric at the point. Also, it looks like there might have been a thread hanger at the top that is still attached on one side. Overall, most of the beadwork is still present and the fabric is in good condition with just some slight wear.
