    Description

For bid is an original September 28, 1881 issue of the EARLY bicycle magazine: THE WHEEL: A Journal of Bicycling" published out of New York City by Frederick Jenkins, 75 Fulton Street, New York.  Wonderful, early magazine on the new sport of bicycling in the United States, founded in 1880.  This issue is Volume II, number 1 of the publication.  LOTS of advertising, including an illustrated image of of a Columbia Bicycles advertisement on the back cover.  There is a long list of "Wheel Races," namely, bicycle races throughout the United States, listed on pages 2 and 3.  Article includes, "Use and Construction of Brakes" and "Some Boston Beans."  Other articles, etc.  There is also "Club News" on bicycle clubs all over the nation.  There are some tears and a few minor creases.  Magazine is complete and very decent.  It's not perfect and has some discoloration and other minor defects.  VERY RARE publication!  There's a two-page "supplement" sheet included, too.
