    Description

RARE BLACKFEET EFFIGY HIDE DOLL AND BUFFALO HORN QUILLED PAINT CUP 1840 - 50'S ERA!
Offered at auction is an extremely rare set of
    PRE-RESERVATION PLAINS BLACKFEET
artifacts collected together during this mid 1800's by a collector from Switzerland with a last name of Grimmer.  These items were kept and passed down through the family until I purchased them a decade ago.
These are the real deal and not some recent creation by a faker. Rarely does anything of this age and quality appear on ebay!
The first artifact is an Human effigy doll made out of some type of brain tanned hide.  It is stuffed with some type of material and sinew sewn I believe as the sewing material is quite hard. This doll is heavily coated in red ocher and has what looks like two incised eyes on the head. The doll has a navy blue trade cloth piece wrapped around its body and a hide strip with two beads and a feather as well as a bear claw at the other end.  This artifact is completely in untouched and unmessed with condition.
The second artifact is a paint cup which is made from a Buffalo horn.  The lower end of the horn has a hole through it where a hide strip is tied on with a group of individual hide piece which are quill wrapped at spaced intervals.  The bottom of these hide strips have curved loops which are completely quill wrapped.  One of the hide strips has a bird claw attached to it.  This artifact is also completely coated with red ocher as well. The Berne Museum in Switzerland has a similar paint cup in its collection.
Finally, I made a display case from an antique kitchen clock which has a Civil War motif and the image of Confederate General Fitz Lee (Cousin of General Robert E Lee). The case is in original unfinished condition. I do have the clock workings as well that I removed from the case initially. They are available if you want them.
I have been collecting Pre-reservation Plains beadwork and weaponry for over 40 years. My whole collection is Museum quality and I do not collect reproductions of any kind.  I have also written two books on different parts of my collection.
THESE TWO ARTIFACTS ARE UNQUESTIONABLY GENUINE!
Rarely do collectors get an opportunity to buy artifacts of this early 1840-50's era.  Don't miss out on this group. you will never see anything like this again.
THIS IS A NO RETURN AUCTION. THE PHOTOS ARE PART OF THE CONDITION DESCRIPTION SO STUDY THEM AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING. THIS AUCTION IS FOR CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES BUYERS ONLY AND SHIPPING IS TO THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES ONLY (EXCLUDING ALASKA) AT A FLAT RATE OF .
    GOOD LUCK!
