Description
Here is a very nice mirror/toilet bag from the Northern Plains. I believe this piece is from the Northern Arapaho from the fourth quarter of the 19th century. It is approx. 16 1/2 '' long overall and approx. 4 1/2 '' wide. The beaded part of the bag is approx. 9'' long. The long beaded bifurcated center tab is approx. 5 '' long to the end of the tin cone drops. There is very minimal bead loss in the main part of the bag and some bead loss of the edge beading around the three beaded tabs. We will do our best to show this in the photos. All of the beading and construction appears to be sinew sewn. It looks like there is some vermillion or red pigment residue on the inside of the bag. There is also a trace of yellow pigment on the fringe at the bottom of he bag. There is also tie thongs that must have went around the long middle tab to secure the flap closed. The hide is in good condition. There is no stiffness, damage or repair anywhere that I can see. We've had the pleasure to enjoy our collection for many years, so now it is time for someone else to enjoy the things that meant so much to us. We never use a reserve; it speaks for itself. The advanced collectors will appreciate this wonderful bag. Thank you for taking the time to consider our auction and good luck. Happy bidding.
