Description

Native American "Ottawa Fair" Mohawk Wall Hanging - Broom Holder
The Ottawa Fair started as single exhibitions in 1875, 1879, 1883 and 1888. In 1888 it was formalized as an ongoing annual fair.  This wall hanging was originally sold as a souvenir at the Ottawa Fair. The fair continued throughout the years with a brief hiatus during World War II.  This broom holder has been dated to be a 1930s model because of the type of materials used and the bead work and design.  It is in beautiful condition and does not appear to have any beads missing.  It does not appear the broom holder was ever repaired and all of the beading is consistent with the time period.  The broom holder is a soft salmon colored velvet and the backing is a cream colored silk.  In excellent condition for it's age. It measures 8 1/2 inches from the top of the hanging to the bottom of the  beaded strands.
