You Are Bidding On A Piece Of Disneyland History With This Wally Boag BOAG-ALLOON ANIMALS BOX That He Autographed At A 1987 Disneyana Collector’s Convention
On Saturday, July 16, 1955, The Golden Horseshoe Revue opened a day early for a private party of corporate sponsors who looked forward to the Grand Opening Of Disneyland on July 17th. This show marked Wally Boag’s first official performance as Pecos Bill - Traveling Salesman at the Golden Horseshoe Saloon!
Wally Boag’s Pecos Bill Traveling Salesman character was a fast-paced comedy routine featuring slapstick humor, squirt guns, a seemingly endless supply of broken teeth which he would spit out throughout the routine, along with Wally Boag’s signature balloon animals aka “BOAG-ALLOONS”!
We had the pleasure and thrill to not only meet Wally Boag, but also get to know Betty Taylor, who played “Slue Foot Sue” and Fulton Burley, who joined the Golden Horseshoe Revue cast in 1962 as his Irish tenor sidekick on stage with Wally Boag. Fulton Burley lit up the stage with his jovial nature and his lilting Irish songs until his retirement in 1987.
Wally Boag, Betty Taylor & Fulton Burley attended a number of Disneyana Collector’s Conventions as guests and special performers held at the Emerald Hotel (which was later purchased by Disney to become Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel) as well as at its next door neighbor, the Disneyland Hotel.
This Wally Boag “BOAG-ALLOON ANIMALS” Box measures 7 1/2” tall, 2 3/4” wide (or 5 1/4” wide with opened hat) and 1” deep. Inside the box were a small number of balloons in two different sizes along with Wally Boag’s own instructions on how to make balloon animals. We no longer have the original balloons or instructions, however, we are including a copy of the original instuctions.
This Wally Boag “BOAG-ALLOON ANIMALS” Box is hand signed on the back just below Wally’s pre-printed on-stage vaudeville comedy line “Actually it was 7 years ago they operated on Father . . .” followed by his facsimile signature. The box is also marked, copyright Walt Disney Productions designed by Richard L. Parmenter Create-A-Pak Co.
