Very rare and original, 1930’s Native American Sioux Indian Bead Decorated Hide Pouch made at the Crow Creek Agency at Fort Thompson South Dakota. This outstanding, early 20th century Diminutive size, Sioux Beaded Hide Pouch measures approx. 3 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" tall and comes in its original box.
The Pouch was made by a collaborative of Sioux living at the Crow Creek Reservation which produced beadwork and carvings known as “Crow Creek Crafts” that were sold to supplement their income. During the 1930’s there was a group of 20 members of the Tribe who worked together producing authentic Native American Crafts that they sold at a small shop at Fort Thompson which was the administrative headquarters of the Crow Creek Agency.
This wonderful Sioux Beaded Pouch is thread sewn by hand and made of a green dyed, brain tanned hide. It features beadwork decoration executed using pumpkin, blue-green, pea green, greasy yellow and tan colored seed beads. The beadwork depicts a traditional Sioux geometric design. The Bag has a metal snap closure on the flap and is made in the form of a small purse.
The Pouch comes in its original Box which measures 4” by 3” by 3/4” and features an illustrated, pastedown label on the lid with text that reads “Indian Made From the Sioux Country” and “Fort Thompson South Dakota / Crow Creek Crafts”.

It is NOT a reproduction or modern recreation but an original Sioux Bead Decorated Hide Bag crafted in the second quarter of the 20th century. This rare and beautiful, 1930’s Sioux Bead Decorated Pouch is in near mint condition. The hide elements are very well preserved – soft and supply with no damage or repairs of any kind. The beadwork is also very well preserved with no bead loss or damage. It appears that the Pouch has never been used in any way and was preserved in its original box by the original owner. The Box is also exceptionally well preserved as can be seen in the scans below.
