1890s NATIVE AMERICAN CHIPPEWA INDIAN BEADED CIRCLE POUCH & BEADED NECK STRAP

Description

Very Rare and original, ca1890’s Native American Northern Plains / Chippewa / Ojibwa Indian Bead Decorated Circle Pouch with beaded sash strap. This outstanding, 19th century Beaded Ojibwa round bag measure approx. 4” in diameter and features a heavy canvas / muslin type substrate. It retains its original, loom beaded, sash type strap (strap measures 34” long and 3/8” wide) which was used to hang the Pouch from the neck. Overall the pouch and neck strap measure approx. 19 1/2” long.
One side of the Pouch features a four lobed flower decoration executed using cobalt blue, translucent turquoise and pumpkin colored beads on a clear translucent field. The opposite side features a stylized flower decoration executed using colors of pea green, cobalt blue, translucent periwinkle and pumpkin on a clear translucent field. The Pouch is thread sewn and calico lined and edged.
The loom beaded neck strap features a crisscross pattern using colors of black and chalk white.

This rare and original, ca1890’s Plains Chippewa / Ojibwa Beaded Pouch and Neckstrap is in excellent condition. The Pouch is intact and sound with no damage or repairs of any kind. The beadwork on the pouch is beautiful and exceptionally well preserved with no loss or damage. There is some fading to the calico lining but overall the Pouch is exceptionally well preserved. The original loom beaded strap is also exceptionally well preserved with no loss or damage.
